Chrome: Enable Dark Theme - how to do it

If you work a lot in the evening or in poor lighting on your PC, then the normal display of Google Chrome can cause you to get migraines as well as painful eyes. Due to this, you should enable Google Chrome Dark Theme.

How to enable Dark Theme

Dark Theme ensures that both the menu bar and web pages are displayed darkly and the text appears in light colors. This makes everything less garish and makes working less tiring.
  1. First you need to update your browser until at least version 74 is available. After that, close Google Chrome.
  2. Now use a right-click directly on the Chrome icon. You will now see a list of browser properties.
  3. Select the "Shortcut" tab. Put the "Target" option, a space and the command "-force-dark-mode".
  4. Now restart Google Chrome. You can now use the dark theme.
  5. If you want to use the classic theme again, you simply need to remove the target entry.

Make sure you have proper lighting

Although the Google Chrome Dark Theme helps you work more effectively in the dark, you should still make sure that you illuminate your workspace properly. This is because it is easy on your eyes and also ensures that you conserve your resources in the long run. Especially classic workstation lights, which are flexibly adjustable, are very suitable for this.
