Ubuntu USB stick formatting: How to do it

Under Linux, some things work a little differently than under Windows or macOS, but formatting a USB stick is no problem under Ubuntu and succeeds in a few simple steps. An additional program is not necessary for this, all functions are integrated into the operating system.

Formatting a USB stick with Ubuntu is easy and useful

Wanting to format a USB stick can have many reasons. For example, formatting may be necessary to make the USB stick bootable or to overwrite the data stored on it and thus delete it relatively safely. Formatting is also necessary if you want to change the file system of your USB drive or partition it. The process is no more difficult under the Linux operating system Ubuntu than under Windows or MacOS. Newer Ubuntu versions have an operating system-integrated function for partitioning disks, so it is not necessary to install additional software.
  1. Open the menu.
  2. Type "Drives" in the search bar at the bottom and confirm with Enter.
