Looking at player ratings has always been a key aspect of assessing performance in Football Manager. Nevertheless, the system was by no means considered perfect.

Football Manager 2021: Player ratings with all-new algorithm

For Football Manager 2021, the code for the player ratings has been rewritten - so it is no longer comparable to the algorithm of its predecessors.

• The player ratings now relate much more to the position of the player. For example, successful dribbles are more important for wingers than for defenders. Conversely, won duels affect defenders all the more.
• Even the role is taken into account. So it makes a difference for the evaluation of the actions, whether a central midfielder is used as a mezzala or playmaker.
• In addition, the evaluation of goalkeepers is particularly important, because this was often criticized in the predecessors. Aspekte wie Paraden oder Stellungsspiel werden deutlich realistischer analysiert und bewertet.
