Windows 8: How to share the printer

The printer can also be shared on the network in the Windows 8 operating system with just a few clicks. This makes it easy to commission a print completely wirelessly from another computer, for example.

Sharing the printer on your network in Windows 8

To allow other users on your network to access a shared printer, share the printer in Windows 8. This is accomplished through the Control Panel:
  1. First, open the Control Panel. The fastest way to find it is to type the term in the search box and click the search result with the same name.
  2. Now switch the view to "Small icons" so that you can see all the menus of the Control Panel.
  3. Open the "Devices and Printers" menu.
  4. Followed by right-click on the printer you want to share on the network in Windows 8.
  5. Open the printer properties.
6. Now switch to the "Sharing" tab and click "Change sharing options".
  7. Set a check mark at "Share printer", set a name with which the printer is displayed in the network and click "OK".
You can now access the shared printer from other devices, but only if the administrator computer is turned on and the other users have the password. If other users should be able to access the printer without these circumstances, open the Network and Sharing Center in the Control Panel. Under "Change advanced sharing settings" turn off the password protected sharing.
