Click pedals are also available for mountain bikes, but they are not as common as on road bikes. The reason for this is that clipless pedals mainly mean an ideal pedaling efficiency; however, for mountain bikes, other criteria are in the foreground.Instead, platform pedals are the leading variant:

• These are regular pedals with a large contact surface. This is important to give the driver stability and grip.
• In detail, there are many differences, starting with the material: plastic pedals do not weigh much, but are not as robust as their relatives made of metal.
• In the high-quality range, platform pedals made of metal are therefore the standard. Here exists a wide price range, which depends on factors such as the material, the weight and the number of pins.
• The pins are screwed elevations that protrude a few millimeters from the pedal. They give the shoe sole grip and are therefore important. Depending on the pedal, the number of pins differs. Here, the heavier the terrain, the more pins bring an advantage.

From all these criteria, a large selection arises, from which you must find the product that best suits you. However, for most drivers, the noticeable differences are often marginal.
