MTB: What role does the steering angle play? We explain it

MTB: That's why the steering angle is important

The steering angle describes the angle between the head tube (fork) and the horizontal. The following applies in principle: the flatter the angle, the more smooth running - and for the steeper descents the mountain bike is suitable. A steeper angle, on the other hand, is well suited for riding fast or for uphill passages.The following values serve as an orientation analogous to the categorization of Fully-MTBs:

• Cross Country: 69° - 71°
• Touring: 67° - 69°
• All Mountain: 66° - 67°
• Enduro: 64° - 66°
• Downhill: 62° - 64°

Steep downhill sections thus require a steering angle that is as flat as possible, while larger angles manifest themselves in a direct driving behavior. Since the frame geometry of a mountain bike can not be easily changed, you make a fundamental decision when buying.
