The update will allow electric cars to take full advantage of the hardware structure already installed on new models. The update by the end of the year
Tesla wants to end the year on a high note. The American company is ready to launch a new update for self-driving cars that should arrive, according to Elon Musk, next week at the latest.
In early December, the founder of the leading electric car company had announced on Twitter that he would release the software before the end of December. And so, in fact, it was. The update will bring improvements to the system for autonomous driving to the cars produced by Tesla. The new update, in fact, fixes some of the issues from the previous release and adds some new features. Although the latest models of Tesla's cars already had the necessary hardware structure for self-driving, the old version of the software did not allow for efficient use of the new technology.
Tesla's self-driving system goes live
The upcoming update will therefore allow for full use of Tesla's self-driving system and will be implemented on Model S and Model X, the last two cars made by Elon Musk's company that integrate the new and advanced autopilot hardware. According to the company, the new features will also be available on the Model 3, the other electric vehicle that will be launched in late 2017. So, Tesla's self-driving takes a really important step forward.
Advanced Autopilot
Enhanced Autopilot, that's the name of the software, will be released progressively and includes some important features. The system, for example, will allow electric cars to automatically adjust speed based on traffic conditions, stay on the roadway and change lanes without asking the driver for help. Cars then, thanks to advanced autopilot, will be able to exit the highway near their destination and park themselves. They will also be able to pull out of the garage independently.
