Digital terrestrial, frequencies change: who must retune

The frequencies of several channels of digital terrestrial television are still changing: here are the users who must retune decoders and TVs.

New round of frequencies for digital terrestrial TV in some Italian regions. About a week after the changes to the HSE package, in fact, it is now the turn of some local broadcasters in five northern regions: Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont and Veneto.

In some cases the change of frequency coincides with the transition to HD and H.264 codec, in one is a simple change in the name of the broadcaster and, finally, in the last case comes a completely new broadcaster. Ahead of the start of the switch off in September 2021, the date when the old MPEG-2 coding standard will be abandoned in favor of MPEG-4. The process will end on June 30, 2022, when all broadcasters will have changed frequencies and switched to the new DVB-T2 transmission standard with HEVC H.265 codec. The frequency changes that have been underway for months are nothing more than a preparation for the great change that will begin in the second half of this year.

Digital terrestrial: what's changing in Lombardy

Television viewers in Lombardy must retune their decoders or TVs because the broadcaster SCH687, in Mux Quenza 2, has changed codec and switched to H.264 (MPEG-4) in high resolution. But that's not all: in the Mux Quenza 1 and Quenza 2 the new broadcaster Gea TV has arrived at number 688.

Digitale terrestre: what's changing in Emilia Romagna

Television viewers in Emilia Romagna must retune because the local Lombard broadcaster Teleboario, in the Mux Telelibertà, has extended to the provinces of Parma (channel number 71) and Piacenza (number 866). Also in this case the broadcaster broadcasts in H.264.

Digitale terrestre: what changes in the other regions

The last change, instead, concerns viewers in Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Veneto, Piedmont and Val d'Aosta and is a simple name change for the broadcaster LA242, which remains at number 242 but is now called LA242 China TV. It is, in fact, a television with programs in Chinese, dedicated to the Chinese community living in Italy.
