To the altimetric difficulties (the difference in height will be of more than 4800 meters) we also add the day of rest: it's never easy to start again after two so intense and hard weeks. If the passage on the Gavia has been cancelled, the climb of the Mortirolo has remained, one of the most difficult mountains in Europe: 12 kilometers at an average gradient of 10.9% with stretches at 18%. A climb able to break the legs and create enormous gaps between the cyclists. Once over the Mortirolo there will be 27,7 kilometers to the finish line, of which twenty downhill.

The last two mountains of the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia will show who has the legs to arrive in Verona with the Maglia Rosa. First you face Aprica from the hardest side (9 kilometers with an average gradient of 4%) and then you start the climb to Mortirolo, considered by many the hardest mountain in Europe: 12 kilometers with an average gradient of 10.9% with a long stretch that never goes below 12% and with peaks of 18%. On these hairpin bends it will be decided who can win the 2019 Giro d'Italia. The Mortirolo ends at 27.7 kilometers from the arrival: after a long descent, the last 7 kilometers to Ponte di Legno will be in light climb.
