Valheim: What is server hopping - and how does it work?

The so-called server hopping is used by numerous Valheim players. Our guide explains what is behind the term and because of which game mechanics it is so popular.

Jumping between seeds: Server hopping is very efficient.

The paths in Valheim are sometimes very long and since you can't teleport ores, this affects the time needed to farm. Server hopping provides a remedy here.

Valheim: How server hopping works

This takes advantage of the fact that your character can always switch between any servers or seeds along with the complete inventory.
  • Very important: ores are not exempt from this.
  • Players therefore like to go to other servers to collect raw materials there.
  • Once the inventory is full or the deposits are exhausted, the logout takes place on the spot.
  • After that you can log in on your main seed. There you wake up exactly at the point where you previously finished the game, so for example directly in your base.
You thus bring the raw materials from other seeds directly into your game world, without having to run far. Since the game mechanics allow this, it is neither a cheat nor an exploit. Nevertheless, by no means all players resort to this method: after all, logistics within a seed can also be seen as a challenge and be fun.Because of this choice, Valheim players are free to decide whether they want to use the easy or the elaborate variant.
