Valheim: How upgrades work - system explained

Upgrades make your tools, weapons and armor in Valheim much stronger. Our guide explains how to upgrade, what you need to do and how to do it.

Upgrades always require the worktable where the item was also made. For example, for the stone axe this is the workbench, and for the bronze axe it is the forge. Both worktables have a tab called "Upgrades".

• There you can see which upgrade costs are incurred for which part.
• The base material of the item is always required (for the bronze axe is bronze).
• The items always have several upgrade levels. Logically: The higher the level, the more materials are needed.
• However, the work table must also meet the requirement. This is also done in stages: For the first upgrade of an item at the workbench, it must also have at least one upgrade.
