MHW Iceborne: How Custom Upgrades Work - All Info

MHW Iceborne: Custom upgrades as additional strengthening

Here is the most important info on custom upgrades:

• Custom upgrades are, so to speak, small additional augmentations, as they are not as strong as the "real" augmentations.
• But they don't need slots for that - and that's what makes them so handy.
• You also need materials from the Guiding Lands (see here) for Custom Upgrades.
• Custom Upgrades can be increased up to five times. In the process, the required materials become increasingly high-level.
• For affinity, the increase is always one percent, for attack power it is a few points (depending on the weapon type). Thereby you are not fixed to one value during the progress; for example, you can increase affinity twice and set the remaining steps to attack power or defense.
• A special feature of the custom upgrades is that the appearance changes with each step. It is adapted to the monster on which the Custom Augmentation is based, for example the yellow-grey design of a Great Jagra or the dark look of a Nargacuga.

Custom Upgrades thus bring additional richness of variants to the already complex system. This is good, as it makes each weapon seem more individual. Since custom upgrades can also be undone at any time, nothing stands in the way of long sessions at the forge.
