Windows 10: Disable Automatic Repair

All computers running Windows 10 have an automatic repair feature that comes into play when problems occur on the computer. If you don't want Windows to make repairs to the system on its own, there are two methods to disable the feature.

How to disable automatic repair via Windows 10 PowerShell

When problems occur in Windows 10, the operating system often performs an automatic repair. If you do not want to use the repair function, you have the option to disable it. If you still have access to the operating system, please press the "Windows key" and the "X key" simultaneously to open the context menu of the Start menu. There, click on the entry "Windows PowerShell (Administrator)" and enter the command "bcdedit /set recoveryenabled NO" in the window that opens. Afterwards, confirm your entry with "Enter" so that the automatic repair is turned off.

Windows 10: More options to disable automatic repair

If your Windows 10 PC is stuck in a continuous loop, the procedure described above for disabling it cannot be used. Instead, it is necessary for you to boot Windows 10 from a USB flash drive or DVD.
  1. Once you have booted Windows 10 from an installation media, you will see the Windows setup screen, where please click "Next".
  2. Next, navigate to "Computer Repair Options" > "Troubleshooting" > "Advanced Options" > "Command Prompt" and run the "bcdedit" command.
  3. Search the list for the entry "resumeobject" and copy the bracket next to it including the content.
  4. Now type the command "bcdedit /set <copied bracket> recoveryenabled NO" and replace the placeholder "copied bracket" with the previously copied content.
