Windows 10: Confirm identity - all info at a glance

When you install Windows 10 for the first time, you will either have to log in with an existing Microsoft account or create a new one. After the installation is complete, Windows may ask you to confirm your identity. Find out how to verify your identity here.

How to confirm your identity in Windows 10

If you signed in with your Microsoft account during a new Windows 10 installation or created a new account, you may need to confirm your identity for security reasons. If this is the case, you will receive a message via the Windows 10 Info Center. The legitimation works with the help of a confirmation code, which is sent to you, for example, by e-mail.
  1. Call the Windows settings by pressing the [Windows] and [i] keys.
  2. Select the item "Account" in the overview.
  3. Click on the left in the navigation on the menu item "Your info".
  4. Click below the message "You need to confirm your identity on this PC" on "Confirm".
  5. Select via the drop-down menu, in which way you want to receive the confirmation code.
  6. Enter your stored email address or phone number, depending on your selection, and click "Next".
  7. Finally, enter the confirmation code that was sent to you in the input field and click "Next".
Once you have legitimized yourself, Windows 10 is able to synchronize all data stored in the account. Which data should be synchronized, you can specify via the account settings.
