YouTube parental controls: How to enable the mode

The Internet is quite a confusing place. It's easy to unintentionally view inappropriate content that isn't meant for your children's eyes. Especially on YouTube, it's easy to click on the wrong video. That's why YouTube should be set up to be child-safe.

YouTube parental control: restricted mode

YouTube has a restricted mode that you can enable on your computer at any time. However, the mode must be set up separately for each available browser.

1. Switch to YouTube in your browser and log in to your YouTube account.
2. Now switch to the homepage and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
3. Once there, you will find a drop-down menu for the restricted mode on the right side.
4. Click the button to expand the options and select "On" below to enable the mode.
5. Finally, click "Save" to keep the mode permanently active outside your account.

Wenn Ihre Kinder eher das Smartphone zum Surfen nutzen, gehen Sie wie folgt vor:

1. Öffnen Sie die YouTube-App und melden Sie sich in Ihrem Konto an.
2. Tippen Sie oben auf das „Dreipunkt-Symbol“, wenn Sie Android nutzen, oder auf das „Zahnrad-Symbol“, wenn Sie ein iOS-Gerät haben.
3. Navigieren Sie anschließend zu „Einstellungen“ > „Allgemein“ und tippen Sie auf „Eingeschränkter Modus“.

Auf dem iPhone tippen Sie zur Aktivierung des Modus bitte auf „SafeMode“ und wählen Sie „Strikt“ aus.
