Link PayPal with Google Pay: How it works

PayPal is among the supported payment methods of Google Pay. If you want to use the online payment service for mobile payments, we explain how to link it.

Double safe? PayPal protects your account data - just like Google Pay.

Millions of people already own and use a PayPal account. The online provider is therefore perfect for linking with Google Pay.

How to link your PayPal account with Google Pay

The link is made with these steps:
  1. Open the "Payment" area in Google Pay.
  2. There, your PayPal account may already be displayed. Otherwise, tap on "+ Payment Method" and select "PayPal".
  3. You will then be redirected either to the PayPal app on your smartphone (if installed) or to the PayPal website. There you follow the steps including consent to use with Google Pay.
  4. It is also important to enter a PIN code twice, which you can set yourself.
Thereupon you can pay via Google Pay with your PayPal account. In the process, PayPal first always tries to settle your payments with existing credit. If this is not available, the amount due is debited from the connected bank account.
