Google Pay: PayPal now on board - here's the situation

Google Pay has been available in Germany since June 2018. This was followed by a major announcement in October: Effective immediately, PayPal is also compatible with the mobile payment service. With us, you can learn what this means and how to link the two services together.

With PayPal, Google Pay was able to win a very potent partner.

Google Pay: PayPal cooperation with potential for millions of users

Google Pay started with big plans, but got a damper by many banks that did not want to participate. PayPal comes just in time and could mean a strong push.
  • PayPal counts about 20 million users in Germany.
  • Theoretically, all these users could use Google Pay, provided a mobile device.
  • This step is also in the interest of PayPal, as the online service has been trying for years to find application in real commerce.
Widespread acceptance also extends with this combination to all stores and premises where contactless payment is possible. Users will therefore find numerous areas of application and this is an important point for the establishment.

How to link PayPal and Google Pay

In order to use PayPal and Google Pay together, it is necessary to connect the services via the PayPal or Google Pay app beforehand. In the PayPal app, please navigate to "Settings" > "Google Pay" and tap "Set up". To link via the Google Pay app, tap "Payments" instead and select "PayPal".
