Excel: Rounding - get meaningful numbers

Excel is a useful tool for recording important numbers in both your personal and professional life. In doing so, you can also ensure that the numbers round automatically with the right formula. This makes your work easier and also saves you time.

How to round numbers in Excel

Even if you haven't studied Excel extensively, you can still make numbers round automatically in just a few steps.
  1. The basic formula for this operation is "=Round(number;number_digits)". This formula rounds the number to the specified decimal place.
  2. To round in your table, click on the appropriate field and enter the desired number in the formula. Confirm the command with the Enter key. The rounded decimal value now appears in the table.
  3. You can also round to two decimal places by adding ";2" to the end of the formula. Advantageously, you can also work with negative numbers.
  4. If you need a number rounded to one decimal place to the left of the comma, then enter the formula "=Round(Number;-1)" as a command.
  5. If you populate the range of the formula "Number_digits" with the value zero, each numerical value is always rounded to the nearest whole number.

Give hints

If you apply the formula to edit a table in Excel that you want to split afterwards, then you should note why you have selected the formula accordingly. You can use the comment function for this.
