Phillips Hue: How to control the lighting system with Alexa

With Philips Hue you have the possibility to customize the lighting. The smart system can be activated or deactivated via app, switch or voice. Connecting the lighting system to a voice assistant, such as Alexa is also possible.

How to control Philips Hue with the Alexa voice assistant

To control the Philips Hue lighting system, you have different options. One practical solution is to use a voice assistant like Alexa. To use the two systems together, you need to connect the Amazon Echo with the Philips Hue lamps.
  1. To connect the systems, you need the Hue Bridge in addition to the Amazon Echo and the Philips lamps. However, if you use Amazon Echo Plus, then the bridge is not necessary.
  2. The devices must be logged into the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. First set up the lamps using the Hue app.
  4. Open the menu in the Alexa app and then select "Skills".
  5. Here you need to tap the option "Philips Hue Skill" and log in with your Hue account.
  6. In the "Smart Home" menu, you can then select the devices, name them and assign rooms.
If you use an Amazon Echo Plus you can perform the setup of the lamps directly with it. So the lamps do not have to be added later via the app. Neben Ein- und Ausschalten lassen sich auch Farbe und Intensität beispielsweise per Sprachsteuerung verändern.
