Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Update - how to check for updates

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the next generation after the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The smartphone offers some new hardware and is faster than its predecessor. The S9 uses Samsung Oreo as its operating system, which can be updated like the previous versions.

How to update the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

It may happen that your Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus does not work properly. You may need to update the phone to get the latest features running and working properly again. First, however, you should create a backup first. Note that the Samsung Galaxy S9 does not get an update for the latest operating system version, Android 11.

1. Install Samsung Kies on your PC and start the program.
2. Now connect your smartphone to the PC. To do this, use the appropriate USB cable.
3. Click on "Backup/Restore" in the menu at the top of the window and select the option "Backup".
4. In the following, you can decide which data you want to backup. You can choose between "Photos", "Videos", "Files", "Apps" and "Contacts". Für ein Komplett-Backup klicken Sie auf „Alle Elemente auswählen“.
5. Drücken Sie auf den Button „Sicherungskopie“, um ein Backup anzulegen.
6. Klicken Sie in der Software nun auf „Werkzeuge“ > „Firmware-Aktualisierung und Initialisierung“.
7. Können Sie nun auf „Bestätigen“ klicken, dann ist Ihr Samsung Galaxy S9 bereits auf dem neusten Stand.
8. Steht ein Update zur Verfügung, klicken Sie auf „Firmware-Informationen“ und danach auf „Aktualisieren“.
