QLED vs. OLED - what's the difference?

When purchasing a new SmartTV, you will be confronted with the question of whether you want to buy a device with OLED or with QLED. Since it makes a difference not only financially, we have summarized the two technologies for you.

This is the difference between QLED and OLED

The first difference you'll notice when you have to decide between the two technologies is the price. With that said, QLED devices in particular are expensive - but why?
  1. The most important difference between the two technologies is the number of quantum dots. These are small particles that are processed within the screen.
  2. These particles are illuminated by your TV's backlight, allowing for vibrant colors as well as sharp contrasts.
  3. QLED thus allows you to see a clearer and more contrasty picture because the percentage of particles that are processed within the screen is much higher.
  4. A QLED can reach a peak brightness of 4,000, which means that even in dark scenes the contrast is optimal.
  5. The number of quantum dots processed in an OLED device is only half compared to the QLED. Thus, the quality is lower.

Do you need QLED?

When choosing between QLED and OLED, the price is certainly also a decisive criterion. But you should also think about whether the TV has the appropriate size, so you can see the subtleties and contrasts on the chosen model. It makes particular sense to opt for a QLED TV if you like watching nature documentaries or blockbusters with the latest technology. But QLED is also unbeatable for video games so far.
