FritzBox: Update not possible - how to solve it

The FritzBox is a router that enjoys great popularity because it is easy to configure and offers a wide range of settings. But even a well-functioning device needs to be updated every now and then. But what to do if the update is not possible?

What could be the reason if the FritzBox update is not possible?

As a rule, after selecting the file, you will see the error "The update failed: An unspecifiable error occurred" in the user interface. Then proceed as follows:

1. Go to the "https://ftp.avm.de/fritzbox/" page and download the latest Fritz OS for your model. The file must thereby end on .image.
2. Open the user interface of the FritzBox by opening any browser, type "fritz.box" in the address bar and confirm with Enter.
3. Now enter your password. If you have not set an explicit password, you can find it on the back of the router.
4. Go to "System" > "Backup" and open the "Restart" tab. Klicken Sie auf „Neustarten“.
5. Nach dem Neustart klicken Sie erneut auf „System“ und dann weiter auf „Update“ > "Fritz!OS-Datei". Eventuell müssen Sie vorher die erweiterte Ansicht aktivieren.
6. Gehen Sie auf „Einstellungen“ > „Sichern“ und danach auf „Durchsuchen“. Wählen Sie die .image-Datei aus und klicken Sie auf „Update starten“.
