Alexa: Set up multi-room music group - listen to your music

When you have a large party, you often don't use just one room, but the company is spread throughout the house. So that all guests can still enjoy your playlist, Alexa offers you the feature to set up a multiroom music group. This way, you can play your favorite music in all rooms.

How to set up a multiroom music group

With the Alexa app, you can have your playlist play on multiple Echo devices. This way, you can listen to your favorite music everywhere and control it from one device.
  1. If you don't have the Amazon Alexa app installed yet, then you need to do this step in advance. After that, open the app on your smartphone or mobile device.
  2. Click on the three dashes at the top left to open the main menu. Select "Smarthome".
  3. Now you will be presented with several options from which you select "Groups". Tap the plus icon to create a new group.
  4. Select "Amazon Multiroom Music Group" from the options and enter a group name. Following this, click "Next".
  5. Now add the available devices to this group by selecting all devices individually. This only works if all Echo devices are connected to the same WLAN.
  6. Save your entries and use the command "Alexa. Play music in the house (group name)".

Be careful with repeaters

To have constant WLAN in all areas of the house, you may use a WLAN repeater. However, this may prevent Alexa from accessing all Echo devices, as a WLAN repeater is recognized as an independent network.
