Is flying drones allowed? You should know

Drones are now available in a wide range of price categories, and there are even some models that are suitable for children. However, drones can also take pictures, which raises the question of whether flying everywhere is problem-free and also legally allowed.

Is flying drones allowed?

Generally, even private individuals can use drones without any problems if they follow the regulations that are provided for them. This includes:
  1. You may not fly a drone higher than 100 meters above the ground, because for greater heights an extra license must be purchased.
  2. Drones may not fly over crowds, accidents or similar scenarios. This is partly due to data protection, and partly because the propellers of drones are very sharp and can lead to serious injuries.
  3. Also over forests and nature reserves flying drones is usually prohibited.
  4. Drones may not be launched below a safety distance of 1.5 kilometers from the nearest airfield. This includes private property as well as glider airfields.
  5. Recordings may only be made if a special permit has been obtained for a district. This is in the range of 250 euros and is valid for two years.
  6. In principle, drones may also only be flown in such a way that it does not interfere with the spatial as well as objective living area of third parties.

Not yet mandatory, but very useful

In the meantime, there is also a special liability insurance for each type of drone. This should definitely be obtained, so that in the event of a crash, the costs are borne. These can, even with small drones, quickly end up in the four-digit range. As a rule, you can expect about 40 to 65 euros per year.
