Set up Google Stadia on Chromecast: How it works

Google's gaming cloud Stadia can be started directly in the browser - but also on a TV via Chromecast. To do this, you first need to set it up. Our guide explains how.

Apps in focus: Stadia and Chromecast run via Google Home and the Stadia app.

Setting up Stadia on Chromecast Ultra is not complicated. The Stadia Controller plays a central role.

How to set up Stadia on Chromecast

On your smartphone, you first need the Stadia and Google Home apps. Sign in to both apps with your Google account. Then connect your Chromecast Ultra to the TV via HDMI.
  1. Using the Stadia app, you need to set up the Stadia controller. To do this, the controller must dial into the same WLAN.
  2. Then press and hold the Stadia button on the controller. Before doing so, make sure that the Chromecast Ultra is turned on and also connected to the WLAN.
  3. A connection code will now appear. Enter the key combination on the controller. Through this step, the controller is connected to Chromecast.
  4. Thereupon you can start Stadia and use.
Since Stadia does not require any installation of games, you can start right away. This also applies when you switch between different TVs with a Chromecast Ultra. Via Google Home, you can namely manage and assign the individual devices; once set up, a quick switch is possible at any time.
