FaceTime: Change background - is it possible?

Facetime is Apple's chat app and is therefore primarily used by iPhone users. Since the background can be changed in video calls via Teams or Zoom, the question arises whether this is also possible with Facetime. The short answer is no. Instead, Facetime comes up trumps with other effects that you can easily apply.

How to add other effects in Facetime instead of a background

During a Facetime call, you can act as a Memoji or change your appearance via filters:
  • Memoji characters: via a custom Memoji, you create a virtual image of yourself. To apply this effect, click on the screen during a Facetime call and then click on the "star icon". Now tap the "face icon" and choose a Memoji character. Now the interlocutors can hear your voice, but see the Memoji figure speak.
  • Filter: Tap on the "star icon" during a call and there on the icon with the colored circles. Now select an option and apply it by tapping on the filter. However, this works only from the iPhone 7 model.

Add a text label in Facetime

Instead of a memoji or filter, you can also add a text to your video screen. To do this, click on the "star icon", then on the "aa icon" and finally on "text label". Type a text and then move it anywhere on the screen.
