Much of the content on Reddit consists of links to other sources - in this respect, the platform is a so-called aggregator. Apart from that, however, there are also self-posts and we explain what they are.

News articles, YouTube videos, Imgur images: The list of external content that Reddit posts link to is long. Self-posts are the opposite of that.

Reddit: These are self-posts

The explanation is pretty straightforward:

• Self-posts are posts that consist only of content you've written yourself, in text form.
• There are consequently no external links occur, such as to an online article or a Twitter post.
• Self-posts are thus the opposite of so-called link posts.

The designation as a self-post is consequently a categorization, but says nothing about the content or topic of the post. For the Reddit everyday life the term is therefore not too important; it can nevertheless not hurt to know it.
