If you want to add a contact in WhatsApp to be able to chat with the person, you need the person's phone number. After you have saved the new contact, you can start chatting directly.

In the popular messenger WhatsApp, you can chat with your contacts, send voice messages and also start Internet telephony. Unlike other chat services, however, WhatsApp does not access a username in the process, but rather the user's phone number. WhatsApp obtains this from your phone book. This means that if a contact is saved on your phone and the person uses WhatsApp, you can chat with him or her without having to add the contact to WhatsApp again.To save a contact in the phonebook, proceed very similarly on most smartphones:

1. Open the phone app on the home screen.
2. Look for a button like a plus symbol or "New contact".
3. Now enter the name of the person and the phone number here.
4. Tap on "Save".

Start a chat with a new contact in WhatsApp

Once you have saved the contact and the person has WhatsApp installed, you will also find the contact in WhatsApp without having to add it. So starten Sie einen Chat mit der Person:
