Windows 10: Enable clocked connection

By using the clocked connection in Windows 10, you can efficiently save your data volume. This has the advantage of using little volume when you use your smartphone's personal hotspot or an Internet stick.

How to enable your clocked connection on Windows 10

By enabling your clocked connection, you are telling Windows 10 not to perform any data-hungry actions at the moment.
  1. First, press the "antenna icon" found in the bottom taskbar. This will show you the network connections.
  2. Right-click on the active connection and press "Switch to Settings".
  3. In the list that appears, click "Advanced Options". Now scroll down to the item "Clocked connections" and activate the check mark there.
  4. You have now deposited this option for the selected network connection.
  5. Note that this information is only deposited for this connection. Windows will now use this type of connection every time you connect to the network.
  6. No clocked connection is enabled for all other WLAN access.

This is suppressed by the clocked connection

The clocked connection prevents updates from being loaded and executed. Also, cloud storage, like OneDrive, will no longer sync automatically. Due to this, you should always save all data directly. Downloads of apps are also interrupted and the data is no longer updated in the background. Likewise, Live Tiles are no longer executed and all background processes that require Internet access are also stopped.
