Change font on Android: what you need to know

If you want to change the font on your Android device, you first need to check if the manufacturer of your device has provided for changing the font in the settings. Huawei and Samsung allow changing the font. For devices from other manufacturers, you usually need an additional app.

How to change the font on an Android device

On most Android devices, you can only set the font size, not the font style. This is because the pre-installed font has been optimized for each application and additional fonts have to be adjusted individually to the different application areas. The manufacturers Huawei and Samsung are exceptions. On all other devices, you have to take a detour via third-party apps to change the font.

Change the font on a Samsung smartphone

  1. Start the settings.
  2. Go to "Display", "Display" or "Screen".
  3. Tap on "Font style".
  4. You now have the choice to tap on a suitable one from some pre-installed fonts.
  5. Alternatively, tap "Get fonts online" to download more fonts.
  6. Tap on a font you like.
  7. Confirm the changes by tapping "OK."

These options are offered by other manufacturers

  1. Huawei: Open the pre-installed "Designs" app and go to "Fonts". Select the desired font here.
  2. Fairphone: Select "Settings" and then "Graphics settings".
