T-Online: Set up IMAP - here's how to do it

If you want to manage your T-Online mailbox via a mail program or app, this works using the IMAP protocol. The protocol is used to synchronize the data between your e-mail program and the e-mail server, so that they are always at the same level.

How to set up your IMAP mailbox

If you use a mail program such as Outlook or Thunderbird, all you need is your e-mail address and the corresponding password to set up an IMAP mailbox, as the programs are able to determine and set up the corresponding servers and settings on their own. However, there are programs that do not have such automation. In such a case, you will have to enter the settings manually.You will need this data to manually include your T-Online IMAP mailbox:

• The username is your full T-Online email address.
• You do not have to use the extra password for email programs as the password. You can set this up via the account settings of your T-Online mailbox in addition to the normal one. The additional password is only used when setting up mail programs.
• Specify as incoming mail server "secureimap.t-online.de" (without quotes) with port 993.
• The address of the outgoing mail server is: "securesmtp.t-online.de" (without quotation marks) and has the port 465.
• In order to receive and send mails, you must also activate SSL encryption.

Note that you IMAP is not supported by all mail programs or apps. Telekom's own e-mail software 6.0, for example, uses the POP3 protocol instead of IMAP.
