Windows 10: Set up Miracast - how to set it up

With Miracast you can transfer the screen content of your smartphone to a suitable display wirelessly. On your Windows 10 computer, you also have the option to use Miracast and thus transfer your screen to other displays. You set up the connection in the system settings.

How to set up a Miracast connection on Windows 10

In order to use Miracast as a transmission method on Windows 10, you need a WLAN connection. However, it doesn't matter whether the two devices you want to connect are on the same Wi-Fi network or not.
  1. Open the Windows Start menu and search for "Connect."
  2. The app with the same name will then appear in your search results. Click on the app to launch it.
  3. After launching the app, a new window will open. Here you will get a message that Windows 10 is ready to connect wirelessly. You will also see the network name of your computer. If you get here the message "The device does not support Miracast, so no wireless projection is possible", you need to retrofit a Miracast receiver.
  4. Now still activate the Miracast connection on the device you want to connect to, so that a pairing can take place.

Miracast retrofit - these options you have

You can also retrofit Miracast with the help of a dongle. You can buy retrofit kits either online or at an electronics retailer. You can get inexpensive models starting at a price of 25 euros. You then simply connect the dongle via USB or HDMI port to the device to which you want to transfer the display.
