Setting up 1and1-IMAP - Procedure

Customers of 1und1 can choose between the IMAP and POP protocols to manage their e-mail. If you choose to use IMAP, you will need to make some settings in the settings of your email program.

Then it makes sense to use 1and1-IMAP

IMAP is the abbreviation for "Internet Message Access Protocol" and is needed to access the messages in your email inbox. If you have an Internet connection from 1und1, it is recommended that you use IMAP if you want to manage your e-mail not only from your PC, but also from your mobile device.

How to set up 1und1-IMAP in Outlook

To set up 1und1-IMAP, you need to make some settings in your e-mail program. If you use Outlook as an email management program, please proceed as follows.

1. Open Outlook and navigate in the "File" tab to "Information" > "Add account".
2. Then activate the option "Manually configure server settings or additional server types"
3. Then click on "Internet e-mail", confirm with "Next" and select "IMAP" as the account type.
4. For incoming mail server, enter the value "imap.1and1.de" and for outgoing mail server the value "smtp.1and1.de" and additionally type in your user data.
5. In the tab "Outgoing mail server" under "The outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication" activate the option "Use same settings as for incoming mail server" and enter the values 993 and 465 for incoming and outgoing server.
6. Finally confirm with "OK" and finish the setup by selecting "Next" > "Finish".
