Xbox One: console sales figures published

The Xbox One had to contend with problems right from the start. These were partly Microsoft's own fault - such as the higher purchase price compared to the PlayStation 4 and the Kinect constraint at the beginning. Later, the Xbox One was able to regain some market share.

The Xbox One sales figures are weaker than Microsoft had hoped for.

Xbox One: Sales figures decent, but behind expectations

The Xbox One was released in November 2013 and has been steadily improving. The release of the Xbox One S alone is considered a successful move, just like the cheap bundles with controllers and several games. In the meantime, there are several newer versions of the console, but some of them were only released in 2020. However, the sales figures of the Xbox One cannot keep up with those of the PS5 even after seven years.
  • Since the release, about 48 million devices have been sold worldwide. In 2019, there were still 4 million copies, while in 2020 there were only 2.7 million. However, this may be related to the re-release of the Xbox Series X/S and may also be due to the age of the console.
  • For comparison, the predecessor, the Xbox 360, went over the counter a total of more than 85 million times.
  • Also compared to the sales figures of the PS4, the Xbox One is not the hoped-for hit.
  • The most important market for the Xbox One is North America, while in Asia and Europe the PlayStation dominates.
  • The newer models, however, offer far more technical improvements. In addition, these are backward compatible, which is something more and more gamers are paying attention to.
