Log out key combination: How it works

Whether you're on Windows or Mac, both operating systems give you the option to log out as a user with a keyboard shortcut. This is an effective way to secure files on your computer from outside access.

Key combination to log out of Windows

With Windows 10 as well as with the previous versions Windows 7 or 8 the key combination to log out as a user is the same.

• Press the key combination "Ctrl + Alt + Del". Now you will be redirected to a full screen menu. To log out of the system as a user, simply press "Logout" now.
• Alternatively, click on a free area of the desktop and use the key combination "Alt + F4". In the menu that appears, select "Logout" and confirm this with "OK".
• If you prefer to do without a key combination, a click on the Start menu is also sufficient. There you click on your profile, from which you can also log out by clicking on "Logout".

Key combination log out on Mac

In Apple's macOS, you also have various options to log out.

• Mit der Tastenkombination „alt + cmd + Q“ können Sie sich als Nutzer von Ihrem Mac abmelden oder über „alt + cmd + ctrl + Eject“ das Gerät ganz herunterfahren.
• Alternativ drücken Sie im Menü auf das „Apple“-Symbol und melden sich dort über einen Klick auf „Abmelden“ als Nutzer ab.
