What is the MCU and why is the distinction important?

MCU stands for Marvel Cinematic Universe.

• This refers to the independent story universe of the film adaptations.
• Although the heroes are based on the comic originals, they are independent of the comic universe. This allows for completely new developments, whether in the story or in character development.
• At the box office, the MCU franchise is the most successful film series in history.
• An important role is played by Marvel Studios, since the publisher began to implement the film adaptations themselves. Previously, the rights had always been awarded to Hollywood studios, partly with little success.
