Google Chrome: Block pop-ups - how it works

Pop-ups are a particular annoyance when browsing, even though they are not always without benefit. Most pop-ups are advertisements that, in the worst case, cover up important areas of the page. If you use Google Chrome as a browser, then you can block them via the settings.

Whole or targeted: Chrome can block pop-ups on its own, without any outside help.

How to block pop-ups in Chrome

Pop-ups are usually advertisements that appear when you visit websites. In most cases, they block important content on the page, which can be annoying, especially in the long run. If you do not want to see these pop-ups, then you can block them via your browser's settings. This is also possible with Google Chrome.
  1. Open Chrome and then click on the three-dot menu.
  2. Then select the "Settings" option and scroll to the "Privacy and Security" section.
  3. Click there on "Website Settings".
  4. There you will find the item "Pop-ups and redirects" further down. Click on it to make further settings, such as the general blocking of all pop-ups at the top.
  5. Click on "Blocked" for the corresponding option.
You can choose to allow or allow pop-ups only from certain websites. In both cases, the procedure is the same and can be set up in no time. To do this, look for the relevant website under "Pop-ups and redirection" under "Allow". Click on the three-dot menu to the right of it and select "Block". Alternatively, click "Add" next to "Block".
