What is the function of a repeater? Find out here
A repeater is also called a range extender or WLAN amplifier. Such a repeater is mainly used in buildings with a low WLAN range. Which function has a Repeater exactly and how you use it correctly, read with us.
How a WLAN repeater works
On the outside, a repeater strongly resembles a classic router. However, a repeater, which is also called an amplifier, has significantly fewer functions than a router and is mainly used to improve WLAN reception in your house or apartment.- A repeater is connected to a router for this purpose to receive its WLAN signal and then output amplified again.
- The connection between router and repeater can be either wireless via WLAN or wired with the help of a LAN cable.
- By using a repeater, the range of the WLAN signal emitted by the router is significantly increased. Depending on the selected repeater model, the range of the WLAN increases by up to 100 meters.
- Although normally the use of a repeater is sufficient, you can theoretically connect up to 254 WLAN amplifiers to a router at the same time.
