Setting up a FritzBox as a repeater - here's how

If the WLAN doesn't work properly in your home because the signal can't make it through the thick walls, all you need is a FritzBox, which you then use as a repeater. This will improve WLAN reception throughout the house.

So the FritzBox becomes a repeater

Which FritBox models offer the repeater function, you can find out on the manufacturer's page. If your model supports the function, then setting it up is a breeze.
  1. First, you should reset the old FritzBox to factory settings and update it so that it is up to date. To do this, connect the box via LAN cable to your router and look here, at which IP is the FritzBox. Then enter this IP m browser to get to the configuration page of the FritzBox.
  2. Click on the configuration page on "System" and then on "Update" > "Fritz!OS version" > "Search for update".
  3. After updating, click on "System" > "Backup" > "Factory settings" > "Load factory settings".
  4. After the reset, you can set up the FritzBox as a repeater. To do this, call up the configuration page again and set up the FritzBox to connect to the WLAN.
  5. Then log in and go to "WLAN" > "Wireless network". Richten Sie ein Passwort für das Repeater-Funknetz ein.
