Setting up the Fritzbox as a repeater - spreading the WLAN
No other router enjoys such popularity as the Fritzbox. Due to its wide range of functions and simple settings interface, the red and silver box can be found in almost every household. Yet the Fritzbox does not always have to act as a router, it can also be used as a repeater.
How to set up the Fritzbox as a repeater?
If you want to turn a Fritzbox into a repeater, you can only do so via the settings on the box's website.- Connect via cable or WLAN to the Fritzbox you want to set up as a repeater and open the user interface by typing "fritz.box" in the URL bar of your browser and pressing Enter.
- Now you have to enter the router password. If you have not changed it, it is located on the back of your router.
- Now click in the menu on the left side on "WLAN" and then further on "Repeater".
- Now activate the option "Repeater" instead of "Base Station". You will now be shown a selection of WLAN networks to which the Fritzbox can connect.
- Click on your WLAN and enter the correct password.
- Now you only have to click on "Apply" and the Fritzbox is set up as a repeater.
- Now the Fritzbox is no longer accessible via "fritz.box", but only via the base station and via the IP that it has assigned to the repeater Fritzbox. So the address should now be "fritz.box/192.168.0. ...".
