A FritzBox is a router that can also serve as a modem with many providers. However, you can also use the FritzBox as a simple repeater that sends your WLAN to the farthest corner of the apartment. With the latest firmware, you can easily make the setting in the FritzBox menu.

How to use the FritzBox as a repeater?

If you prefer to use your FritzBox instead of a WLAN repeater, connect it to your PC via WLAN or network cable. In addition, it is recommended to update the box first before you set it up as a repeater.
  1. Use a browser of your choice and open the configuration page "fritz.box".
  2. Enter your FritzBox password. If you have not set a new password, you can find it on the back of your FritzBox.
  3. Now you can find the "Firmware Update" under the item "System" in the left menu. Press the button "Search for firmware" and install it if a new version is available.

Fritzbox as a repeater: How to set up

Once you have completed the steps described above, first click on the option "WLAN" in the user interface menu and then on "Repeater" .
  1. Then activate the item "Repeater" and select the radio network of your FritzBox under "Base Station".
  2. Then enter the network key of your base station in the field "WLAN Network Key".
  3. After clicking "Apply" you have successfully converted your FritzBox to a repeater.
