PayPal: "Strange transaction detected" - be careful!

You have a PayPal account and receive a message that a strange transaction was detected? Then you should not panic. Take your time to check the mail carefully. Because if it is a phishing mail, you should not submit any information.

Be careful

If the mail is a phishing mail, then this e-mail is not for your information, but it tries to steal your data or identity.
  • It makes it seem that the email comes directly from PayPal, and in the subject you can read that a strange transaction has been detected.
  • The mail tells you that a transaction from your PayPal account, due to security regulations could not be carried out.
  • You can also see from the mail, what amount it is and that you have 14 days to cancel the transaction.
  • In the mail you will find a link that you should use to identify yourself. Only in this way can you supposedly resolve the situation.
  • Do not click on the link. If you have nevertheless clicked on this link, do not fill in any data in the online form and do not download any attachments. These could also contain malware.

This is what you should watch out for

Phishing emails come along in the name of a wide variety of providers. Due to this, you should always be careful when you are asked to hand over your data or identify yourself. Take a close look at the sender and compare it with the corresponding company. If you cannot draw any conclusions from this, you should log into your account regularly and see if there is a problem.
