No Man's Sky: Getting mercury - how to do it

Mercury is the third currency in No Man's Sky and was just introduced in summer 2018. We explain what's behind it, how to get mercury, and what you can buy with it.

Units and Nanit are very present from the start, as you need one of the two currencies for all purchases. With mercury it is different, but useless the currency is by no means.

No Man's Sky: Get mercury as an event reward

Mercury was introduced as a reward for the community events. These do not take place permanently. If an event is available, you will be informed about it by Polo in the Space Anomaly. Then it goes like this:

1. You will receive coordinates for a portal. Travel there and pass through it.
2. Search for Hex Cores with the scanner and collect 25 of them.
3. Fly back to space to submit the quest and get Mercury.

To redeem the Mercury, you will find a new merchant in the anomaly. This one has things like deco items and emotes in stock. Of elementary importance is mercury in No Man's Sky thus not, but rather serves the further customization.
