MacOS: Convert PDF to Word - how it works

To be able to edit PDF files on MacOS for free, it is recommended to convert them to Word documents. This can be done on Mac both with additional software and with already existing on-board tools. In this article, we explain how to do each.

Convert PDF to Word: This software does it on macOS

To edit PDF files on your Mac directly in Adobe Acrobat, you need the paid version of the program. If you do not have it, it is possible as an alternative to convert the file from PDF format to a Word document and edit it. Free of charge, the conversion of a PDF into a text file is possible with the tool "PDF to Text".
  1. Install the tool for this first on your Mac by downloading it from the App Store.
  2. After that, open "PDF to Text" and click on "+PDF" to add the file to be converted to the program.
  3. Simply browse the desired PDF file via your Mac's Finder and click "Browse" to select a folder to save the converted text file.
  4. Finally click on the icon with two arrows to start the conversion process.

MacOS: How conversions from PDF to Word are possible

If you would like to convert your PDF files without installing additional software, this can be done with the Preview app. In this method, first open the PDF by double-clicking it in the Preview app and select the text of the PDF file by pressing "cmd" + "a". Then copy the selected text by pressing "cmd" + "c", open Word word processor and paste the text into it.
