PDFs are handy when it comes to creating documents that are compatible for all devices. PDFs are always displayed the same way and can be opened with any operating system. One disadvantage, however, is the limited editing options. Depending on the situation, a text document is more suitable.

Convert a PDF to text and vice versa

With a word processing program you can create PDFs as well as convert PDF documents back to text files. For this purpose, you can use Word or even the free OpenOffice Writer. However, when converting PDF to text file, you may encounter formatting problems. So you may need to make corrections to the file here after conversion.Convert a text file to PDF:

1. Open a text document in Word or OpenOffice Writer.
2. Click "File" in the upper left corner, then click "Save As".
3. Select "PDF" from the drop-down menu.
4. Assign a file name and select the location.
5. Click "Save".
