Confluence: Apply Wiki Markup

The wiki software Confluence offers companies the opportunity to promote internal knowledge sharing. In addition to documentation and communication within an organization, it is also increasingly used for public wikis. Here we explain what wiki markups are and how to use them.

For which application areas is a wiki markup in Confluence useful?

You enter a wiki markup directly into the editor, and the application then automatically converts the command into rich text format. You use the function in the following areas:
  • For creating links by using the "Advanced" option under "Insert Link".
  • For creating custom content on the sidebar or the header or footer.
  • With a wiki markup, you also insert a data block into Confluence's editor in just a few steps. To do this, navigate to "Add more content" and select "Markup" there.
It should be noted that no page content is stored in the Wiki Markup. While you can simply type a mark up into the editor, it will be immediately converted to rich text format. Therefore, you cannot configure a wiki markup in Confluence after typing it. If you want to change the language or the design in Confluence as an admin, this is accomplished with a code block.
