Set up Firefox VPN - how to surf the net anonymously

If you want to stay anonymous while surfing with the Mozilla Firefox browser, you need a VPN. Firefox itself does not come with such an option. However, there are some free browser extensions that allow you to set up a VPN connection.

How to set up a VPN in Firefox

When you surf with a VPN, websites cannot determine your actual IP address, which allows you to bypass IP blocking, for example. There are several free extensions that you can download and install directly in Firefox. One of these options is the Hide My IP VPN. Follow these steps to install the extension:
  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click on the three dashes in the top right corner and select "Add-ons" from the menu.
  3. Type "Hide My IP VPN" in the search box and confirm input with the Enter key or by clicking on the magnifying glass.
  4. Select the extension in the search results.
  5. Click the "+ Add to Firefox" button.
  6. Confirm the permission request by clicking "Add".
  7. After installation, the Hide My IP icon appears in the Firefox navigation. Click on it, you can create a user account or log in with an existing one.
  8. You can then use the icon to access the extension's command center. There you can turn the VPN on and off and adjust the settings.
Often, however, the connection via VPN is slower than the normal connection. In addition, many free VPN services are limited to a certain data volume.
