Windows: WLAN hotspot - how to set it up

With the help of a WLAN hotspot you can share your computer's Internet connection with other devices. Before doing so, however, you need to set up the hotspot correctly using Windows settings or software. We will explain how to proceed step by step.

How to use your Windows PC as a WLAN hotspot

If you want to share the Internet connection of your Windows PC with another device, this is possible with the help of a WLAN hotspot. To set this up under Windows, please proceed as follows:
  1. Open the Start menu by pressing the Windows key and click on the "gear icon" in this to get to the settings.
  2. In the settings, then navigate to "Network and Internet" > "Mobile Hotspot" and move the slider next to the entry "Share my Internet connection with other devices" to the right to enable the function.
  3. Now click on "Edit", specify a name and a password for your hotspot and select "Save" to complete the setup of the WLAN hotspot.

Windows: How to set up the WLAN hotspot via software

Instead of the method described above, you can also set up the WLAN hotspot with special software. Programs such as "Virtual Router" or "HostedNetworkStarter" are suitable for this purpose and can be used free of charge. However, the prerequisite for using these programs is that you have a computer with Windows 7 or higher and that it has a WLAN adapter. If you have downloaded one of the programs to your Windows PC, please start it and follow the instructions for setup.
