Mac: Set up WLAN hotspot - share your data volume

If you want to share your access respectively your data volume with other devices, then you don't have to give out a password, you can simply set up a hotspot for this. This way you keep control and can better regulate access to your network.

Mac: How to set up a hotspot

A hotspot has the advantage that you can share it temporarily and thus know exactly who is currently using the access to your WLAN.
  1. Start your Mac and open System Preferences via the Gear app in the Doc.
  2. Now System Preferences will open and you need to select the "Sharing" section.
  3. You will now be taken to a new menu where you click on the "Share Connection" option. Then select "Ethernet" and check the box in front of "WLAN".
  4. The WLAN options will now appear. In the "Security" section, find the "Personal WPA2" option and enter a secure password twice.
  5. This password will be needed later for logging into the hotspot. Enter a new network name to make the hotspot easier to find. Confirm your entries with "OK".
  6. Click on "Internet Sharing" and confirm the process with "Start".
  7. Now the new network can be found.

What is the advantage?

Surely you can also simply give good friends access to your WLAN. However, you should always keep in mind that you will be responsible first if there are any legal issues. The hotspot allows you to control exactly who has access to your network and when. This gives you greater control and increases your security.
