Installing Chrome OS in Virtualbox - how it works

If you want to test Google's operating system, this is not easily possible. However, via a virtual box, it is possible to install Chrome OS and try it out. If you no longer need the software, you can simply remove it from Virtualbox afterwards.

How to install Chrome OS in Virtualbox

If you want to test Chrome OS first, it is worthwhile to install the operating system in Virtualbox first.

1. First you need to download and install Virtualbox.
2. Then open the simulator and click "New". This will allow you to create a new virtual machine in which you will install Chrome OS.
3. Give the VM a suitable name and select the type and version "Other".
4. Next, you need to select how much memory you want to reserve for Chrome OS. Hier reicht es, wenn Sie 512 Mbyte auswählen.
5. Nun laden Sie die Testversion von Chrome OS herunter und entpacken diese.
6. Über die Schaltfläche „Vorhandene Festplatte verwenden“ in der VM können Sie nun die heruntergeladene VDI-Datei auswählen.
7. Als nächstes klicken Sie auf „Erzeugen“, um Chrome OS in der Virtualbox anzulegen.
8. Nun klicken Sie mit der rechten Maustaste auf „Chrome OS“ und wählen den Menüpunkt „Ändern“ aus.
9. Unter „Anzeige“ müssen Sie anschließend den Grafikspeicher auf mindestens 128 Mbyte erhöhen und die 3D-Beschleunigung aktivieren.
10. Anschließend können Sie Chrome OS starten.
